The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai is likely hire 300 people this year, said a senior Dubai official.

Major-General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director-General of GDRFA-Dubai, said: “We expect to hire 300 people in 2014. They will be trained and placed across different departments in GDRFA over a period of nine months to be introduced and trained in all aspects of our operations in the various departments with special emphasis in security procedures and customer services.”

Al Marri said as long as there is need to hire new staff, the department will not stop the process. “Our goal is to have the best employees and train them to be excellent and distinguished. We believe that our staff is the first point of contact for people coming to Dubai and that they should be the best.”

GDRFA director-general said this in an interview with the department’s newly-launched magazine Manafez Dubai.

Dubai’s successful win of Expo 2020 bid has also increased workload on the GDRFA staff as business activity gathers pace and demand for the new issuances grows. GDRFA said visitors to the emirate have risen by 14 per cent since Dubai won Expo 2020 bid.

GDRFA employees, of which 99 per cent are women in the service hall, completed nearly 57 million transactions in 2013 compared to 49 million in the previous year, an increase of 5.14 per cent.

The number of entry permits issued last year was 12.7 million while the number of residency visa transactions was nearly 4 million.

“We have specialised development teams in various domains like IT, Human resources and Training and our infrastructure is strong and equipped to handle large volume of business,” he added.
