Dubai Municipality: 'Bombing’ bed-bugs illegal.. can kill you

Dubai Municipality has issued a statement once again warning residents of the emirate against using fumigants in homes.

The statement says that the “use of fumigants in homes is illegal in UAE”.

“There are a lot of people selling Aluminium Phosphide illegally to control bed bugs.

“This is a highly toxic chemical that can be fatal if inhaled.

“Sold as 'bombs' they are available in the form of capsules that come in small cans. When in contact with water, they emit poisonous gas,” the statement said.

In an email to this website, Bobby Krishna, Senior Food Studies and Surveys Officer of the Food Control Department, Dubai Municipality, says residents should only use pest control companies approved by Dubai Municipality.

“Do not use chemicals sold by individuals. Watch out for what is happening around you. Your neighbour could be using the fumigant.

“Look out for tapes on the doors that are used for sealing apartments that are fumigated,” Krishna says in the email.

Several cases have been reported in the various parts of the UAE of deaths due to pesticide poisoning.

Krishna adds: “Have a rule in your residential complex that pesticide use should not be done without informing the watchmen.”

Residents that find anyone selling these illegal fumigants, or using them, can inform Dubai Municipality on 800900.
