A new initiative to save children with congenital heart defects has been was officially launched by the Dubai Health Authority ( DHA ) and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Foundation.

"Nabadat", which means pulses in Arabic, is the fruit of collaboration which started between the two bodies in 2007 to provide life-saving surgeries to 100 children with congenital heart defects a year in Dubai alone.

As part of the initiative, DHA will organise visits to the UAE for international heart surgeons and will cover the costs of surgeries for as many children as possible between 5-14 October.

According to the director general of the Dubai Health Authority Qadi Saeed Al Murooshid, too few specialist surgeons are available to treat the so many children with such heart defects.

According to Dubai's heart surgeon who oversees the initiative Dr Obaid Al Jasem, the initiative will seek to realise the ambitious humanitarian vision of the emirate.
