Dubai Police has introduced a number of new measures in order to apprehend culprits by using the latest new technologies.

Dubai Police has added new departments such as the forensic engineering and nuclear physics department because there was a need for more specialised departments, said Dr. Fuad Tarbah, Senior Forensic Toxicologist and Director of Training, Research and Development Department at #DubaiPolice ’s Forensics Science and Criminology Department.

He highlighted some of the modern forensic sciences such as Kinesiology, also known as human kinetics, which is the scientific study of human movement.

Kinesiology addresses physiological, mechanical and psychological mechanisms.

He also added that the new ’kinetic footprint' technology will help in identifying the criminal by his body movements. This technology can come handy when the fingerprints are absent from the crime scene. He said that police could identify the criminals as it is difficult for a person to hide or change the way he/she walks.

Offenders can be identified when captured by a special 3D camera and can measure accurately the movement of joints and measurements unique physical characteristics such as walking, excessive rotation of the foot. This will then be compared with the conduct of the suspects, for instance how they walk.

Dr. Tabrah said the new building includes classic forensics departments such as forensic biology and DNA, forensic chemistry, forensic toxicology, trace evidence and post-bomb and explosives, tool-marks and firearms, questioned documents, digital forensics and computer crime, voice analysis, forensic video and photography, fire and arson investigation and fingerprint.
