Dubai Police has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (DCCE), a member of the Supreme Council of Energy for Dubai, which is in support of the ‘Green Economy for Sustainable Development’ initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The MoU enables Dubai Police to exchange expertise with DCCE to monitor the process of minimising carbon emissions.

Major General Rashid Al Mazrouei, Director General of the Department of Services and Equipment of Dubai Police, and Waleed Salman, Chairman of DCCE, signed the MoU, in the presence of Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council, Major General Khamis Matar Al Muzainah, Deputy Commandant General of Dubai Police, Major General AbdulRahman Rafie, Director of Community Service at Dubai Police, and Ahmed Butti Al Muhairabi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council.

“The Supreme Council continually works on launching initiatives to achieve sustainable development and manage and reduce demand for energy by 30 per cent by 2030 to minimise carbon emissions significantly,” said Al Tayer.

“The Supreme Council is now setting the Dubai Strategy to minimise carbon emissions, combat global warming, and set a framework for monitoring, auditing and reporting. The DCCE is also setting an action plan for monitoring and reporting on carbon emissions to provide data for concerned parties, in addition to adopting best practices and setting mechanisms for clean development,” he said.

Al Tayer said that Dubai Police contributes significantly to the ‘Green Initiatives’ by adopting best practices in environmental management across its various organisations. He praised Dubai Police for being the first organisation in the region to form a management team for energy and environment. He stressed that such efforts and initiatives support the goal of achieving sustainable development.

“The environmental initiatives launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, support the environmental strategy formed by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and cover all aspects of our life. These initiatives echo not only regionally but also internationally as part of the green movement, which is building the future. The ‘Green Economy for Sustainable Development’. launch by Sheikh Mohammed to build the green economy in the UAE, falls within the integrated strategy which plays a significant role in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development,” said Al Muzainah.

“Launching the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest solar park in the region, is a part of the integrated initiatives. The initiatives launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum support the vision of the UAE, with the country being one of the first to sign the ‘Kyoto Protocol’ for minimising greenhouse gases in industrial countries in 2005, and the first GCC country to sign the Copenhagen agreement. Such involvements enhance the long-term national initiatives that aim to control emissions. We appreciate the efforts of the Supreme Council and DCCE in minimising carbon emissions in the UAE,” added Al Muzainah.

“We, at Dubai Police, are keen on protecting our environment and future generations. We have recorded many pioneering initiatives in the protection and development of the environment, such as planting mangrove trees in Ras Al Khor, which later became an internationally recognised natural reserve. This is in addition to several initiatives to combat air pollution by reducing traffic congestion, setting specifications for vehicle maintenance to reduce exhaust fumes, the launch of our fully-equipped boat to monitor and control water pollution, and establishing the Department of Environmental Protection which is the first of its kind in the region,” concluded Al Muzainah.

“We at DCCE will provide all possible support to Dubai Police to enable them to implement the concept of green economy and promote sustainable development, by launching initiatives for energy efficiency, carbon-neutrality, renewable energy, and thereby enhance the capabilities of individuals and organisations,” said Salman.
