Dubai Police urge residents to play 'cop'; call out traffic violations

Ever been bumped off the fast lane by an impatient rash driver?

Ever been forced to jam the brakes on your car when a vehicle ahead suddenly swerved without turning on the indicator?

Ever felt frustrated and helpless at not being able to do anything about it?

Don’t fret. Here’s your chance at constructive feedback.

Dubai Police’s ‘We Are All Police’ initiative is just that handy tool that enables cautious drivers to report traffic violations.

In an interview with Emirates24|7, Colonel Jamal Mohammed Al Bannai, Deputy Director of General Traffic Department, said: “If you are pushed off the fast lane, call 8007000 and tell them that I can see a motorist violating the rules, and they (the police) will take action.

“You must also detail where it took place, and the number plate of the vehicle.”

According to the stats provided by the Dubai police, the number of violations recorded under the initiative have increased from 38,026 cases in 2014 to 47,941 reports this year.

As per the fine-print listed on the Dubai Police official website, motorists need to first register on the site, after which they can report any violations by dialing 8007777 or 8004353 or 901, or emailing mail@dubaipolice.gov.ae.

The Dubai Police smart app, which was launched in 2014, also provides a platform for motorists to report violations committed by other drivers.

While the top cop encourages residents to click pictures of violations and upload it on the app, Colonel Jamal outlined 'certain conditions' where you must not click pictures of people inside the vehicle or outside. “You can certainly take pictures of violations and send it to the police,” he added.
