The Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has issued a directive to rename Al Sufouh Street.

The new name will honour the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia in recognition and appreciation of his role in supporting the causes of the Arab and Muslim world.

The street will now be known as King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street.

The gesture reflects the historically strong relations between the UAE and Saudi Arabia and recognises the Kingdom’s vision and role in enhancing solidarity between Arab nations.

The naming also marks the 86th Saudi National Day.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, opened the renamed street in a ceremony on Wednesday.

The ceremony was also attended by Chairman of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; UAE State Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash and Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the UAE Dr Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Bishr.

The newly named King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street is considered one of Dubai’s most important thoroughfares where many landmark hotels, tourist attractions and business facilities located on the stretch including the access to The Palm Jumeirah island, along with the sprawling hotel complex of Madinat Jumeirah, Jumeirah Mina A'Salam, Jumeirah Al Qasr Hotel, Madinat Arena and Souk Madinat Jumeirah.

The street further connects to Dubai Marina and the Jumeirah Beach Residences.

Some of Dubai’s most important economic zones like Dubai Media City, home to over 2,000 international and regional media companies, and Dubai Internet City with 1,700 technology companies, are located on King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street.

The street runs parallel to the waterfront stretching from Umm Suqeim Street in the north to Garn Al Sabkha Street in the south.

The six-lane stretch has a total capacity of 4,500 vehicles per hour in each direction, according to the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai and also features the track for the Dubai Tram.
