Dubai’s CDA honours individuals, entities for support to volunteering activities

Under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, and in the presence of Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Community Development Authority (CDA), in a special event, honoured 460 volunteers who participated in CDA’s activities during the past two years. The event held at the Dubai World Trade Center, Zabeel Hall, on Monday, April 16, also gave special awards to 16 volunteers for their contributions through maximum participations.

Besides the volunteers, a number of decision makers from the government and private entities and potential partners were present on the occasion.

The Authority also honoured entities which have partnered with it on volunteering activities. As part of its initiative, CDA also networks with entities from the private sector in an effort to introduce them to its volunteering programmes for securing future collaboration.

Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum received the Golden Membership Card from Khaled Al Kamda, Director General, CDA, and became an official member of CDA’s volunteering programme.

CDA, which is responsible for setting up and developing frameworks for social development in Dubai, stands apart when it comes to services related to volunteering. It has promoted the volunteer culture and has been playing an important role in fostering volunteering activities in line with its vision to create an inspiring model of community well-being and national identity.

The Authority is considered the first governmental body in the country to provide voluntary services as a government service, while the Volunteers Affairs Section is considered the first section in any governmental body all over the Emirates, specialized in volunteering.

Sheikh Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Ali Al Nuaimi, Environmental Advisor to the Ajman Government and CEO of Al Ihsan Charity Centre, gave a presentation on the role of volunteering in community development sustainability.

 “The CDA has always recognized the significance of volunteering in the improvement of the society. Volunteers who participated in CDA’s activities have played an important role in turning thoughts into genuine action. CDA will continue to prioritize its efforts to provide voluntary services as a government service and pave the way for more participation from individuals as well as private entities in this noble effort,” said Al Kamda.

CDA already has an accredited volunteer programme that organises training courses focused on strengthening awareness on volunteering., CDA co-ordinates with Dubai government organizations and public benefit associations to involve more volunteers in various activities as it tries to make voluntary work one of the main essentials in building and developing the society. It strives to promote awareness of the importance of voluntary work and its effect on society growth.
