Facilities management company Emrill has launched a new unit to cater growing demand for specialised FM needs of the companies and aims to double its existing 6,000 employees, said a senior company official.

Jason Ruehland, Managing Director of Emrill, told Emirates 24l7 that the company “has been expanding year-on-year; in 2011, we had around 4,000 employees and now we have 6,000 which is a phenomenal growth. We are a leading FM company so attracting talent is fairly easy because people want to come to work for Emrill.”

Owned by shareholding partners Al Futtaim, Carillion and Emaar, Emrill’s client base includes a host of local and multinational companies across the UAE such as Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, Aldar, Asteco, InterContinental Hotel Group, ABN-Amro bank, Amlak, Anantara Palm Dubai, Alshaya, Masdar City and others.

By 2020, Ruehland expects the number of staff would double as there will definitely be opportunities not just for Expo 2020 but the infrastructure around it. Since a lot of companies in residential and commercial developments coming online as part of Expo plan, so there will be a huge facilities management work over the next five years, he added.

The facility management company, according to Ruehland, operates 20 per cent of towers in Dubai.

Industry estimates show that the facilities management industry is rapidly growing and will be valued at approximately Dh20 billion in 2016 due to growing construction, hospitality and aviation sectors in Dubai.

Commenting on the establishment of the new specialized FM unit, Ruehland said as cities become smart, there’s a need for specialist management company that can cater to the new technological challenges.

For the new unit, the company will hire people specialised in areas such as electronics, electromechanical, power and HVAC. “We are looking for specialists knowing how to operate the systems – that kind of individuals we will bring in.”

Ruehland sees the new unit adding 5-10 per cent to Emrill’s revenues.

Nuha Jassim, Head of newly-launched Emrill Specialist Services, said: “Our services are not just limited to annual facilities management contracts but also consultation, supply and installation and engineering solutions.”

She said: “We did structure the company from up to down. Now we have more than 15 people specialised in different segments and by 2020, we will need minimum between 50 to 100.”

Emrill Specialist Services has projected expected savings of Dh5 million during the first year of operation and Dh10 million in the second year.
