Grand celebrations of the UAE’s forthcoming 43rd National Day are planned in Dubai on November 28, 29 and December 2, the Traffic Police has announced.

Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Dubai Traffic Police, said the celebrations will begin with fireworks and other shows at 9pm on Friday November 28 near the Burj Al Arab hotel.

On Saturday November 29, there will be a rally of 1,000 luxury and classic cars. The parade will start at Meydan and move to Jumeirah and then to Boulevard Avenue.

The grand celebrations on Tuesday December 2 will include a military parade and mounted bands in which all Dubai government departments will participate.

Only those with permits will be allowed to take part in National Day activities. The public can watch the shows 'live' on screens fixed at squares and roundabouts, Col. Mazroui said.

Fines, penalties

Eighty police patrol vehicles will be out on the roads on which the parades will be conducted to regulate entry and exit of cars from these streets. The police patrols have been assigned to divert traffic to alternative routes, he added.

Deterrent penalties, including impounding the vehicle for a month, will be imposed on those who violate traffic rules during the celebrations.

He said those who cause trouble on the roads by random vehicle marches or lean out of the windows or sunroofs of their vehicles or drive their cars recklessly endangering people’s lives, will be fined Dh2,000 and will earn 12 black points and their vehicles impounded for a month.

Motorcycle riders who violate the rules will face the same penalties and bikes without licence will be confiscated immediately.

Col. Mazroui added that Jumeirah, Al Riqqa, Al Muraqabat , Creekside, Al Warqa’a,  Al Mamzar, and the Boulevard areas are seeing rise in irregularities.

He said 20 mobile radars will on the roads during National Day celebrations in addition to 20 day and night patrols, especially on Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Dubai Hatta Road.

One person died during last year’s National Day celebrations because of the driver’s negligence.  About 3,000 cars were impounded for a month and their drivers fined last year, he added.
