Dubai school wins UAE Youth Fest trophy

Students of Our Own English School Dubai bagged the championship trophy in the first UAE School Youth Festival 2015 held at the Habitat Indian School Ajman, followed by Abu Dhabi Indian School. These two schools emerged victorious in a fiercely fought competitions in which about 1500 students from 62 Indian Schools in the UAE took part.

Vrinda Mohanan and Mrunal Madhu, both students of Our Own English School Sharjah won the Kalathilakam (Star Art Performer) and Kalaprathibha ( Star Art Performer) trophy for winning first prize in many art dance and music competitions in the senior category,  Anushka from Abu Dhabi Private International School and Devananda R Menon from Delhi Private School Sharjah have won the junior category Kalathilakam and Kalaprathibha Awards respectively. 

“School youth festivals are like carnival for the school community back home in India, but students from hundreds of Indian Schools in the Gulf are not permitted to participate in the annual Youth Festivals held in Kerala,” said Basheer  Padiyath, Chief Patron of the UAE School Youth Festival 2015 during the prize distribution event attended by parents, students and the cream of Indian community members.

Special media awards were also distributed to encourage better media coverage of the Youth Festival in India with Saneesh Nambiar, Bureau Chief, Reporter TV getting the best news coverage reporter prize.

Fifty-fifth Kerala School Kalolsavam saw record number of participants and winners, but entry is denied for overseas Indian school students.

A three-day inaugural UAE School Youth Festival  showcased the abilities of over 100 students of all the Indian schools in the UAE and the organisers are planning to make it a regular annual cultural carnival for the Indian school community in the UAE.

Ammar Keezhuparampil, Chairman of the School Youth Fest said certificates and trophies were distributed to the winners and the School Youth Festival will be organized more widely in the coming years.

Habitat Indian School was a partner in the first ever school youth festival in the UAE for Indian School Students. Parents and students from different Emirates took part in the competitions and the colourful prize distribution event in which leading Indian businessmen, and prominent NRIs took part.
