Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), the integrated free zone technology park, has announced its participation at the GITEX Technology Week 2017, marking its 15th consecutive outing at the industry’s ultimate technology event for the region.

Set to run from October 8 to12, 2017 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, DSOA’s participation from its stand No. ZB20 will highlight the Silicon Park project, the first smart city project in Dubai that is being constructed across an area of 150,000 square meters at a total cost of AED1.3 billion.

DSOA will enable customers, decision makers and experts to see first-hand some of the most important aspects of the project that will integrate smart infrastructure, smart facilities, and smart safety and security solutions as well as 100 million dirhams worth of smart services.

Through its presence at GITEX 2017, DSOA will also showcase 21 successful smart city initiatives at Dubai Smart Government’s stands No. S2 and No. S3 A21. DSOA representatives will be on hand to share details on the smart city initiatives and respond to visitor queries throughout the five-day expo.

Speaking on DSOA’s participation, Engineer Muammar Al Katheeri, Executive Vice President of Engineering and Smart City Unit, said: “GITEX Technology Week has gained much significance in recent years against the backdrop of massive technological transformations taking place globally.

All sectors are increasingly relying on advanced technologies to operate their businesses. This in the long haul is anticipated to impact the employment market and create new jobs while rendering some of the more conventional jobs redundant.

“Through our year-on-year participation at this annual high-visibility event, we not only get a valuable opportunity to track some of these of disruptive tech innovations, but also gain a platform to share our own smart solutions and initiatives at DSOA, as well as exchange ideas directly with the audience, decision makers, customers and tech enthusiasts.”

He added: “The UAE plays a vital role in shaping ideas for a new historical era that is led by technology. At DSOA, we are seeking to provide the suitable environment and infrastructure to support entrepreneurship and innovation, and develop technologies in line with the government’s agenda.

We will continue to offer unique projects that will add to our success stories since the establishment of Dubai Silicon Oasis.”

Highlighting key aspects of DSOA’s main attraction at Gitex Technology Week, the Silicon Park project, Al Katheeri noted that smart city project is on track for completion in early Q1, 2019.

The Silicon Park project has been designed to become a key destination for large and emerging global tech companies, and an incubator for innovation and technological advancement in management, marketing and services.

The integrated smart city project reflects global trends for smart cities and incorporates most of the KPIs of the UAE National Agenda, including cohesive society, safe public and sustainable environment. As a smart community, Silicon Park will feature intelligent solutions from transportation to charging stations.

It will optimize the use of renewable energy resources and adopt measures to achieve efficiency in energy consumption.

Silicon Park will also include a control center that compiles and analyzes data gathered through sensor devices. The collated information will enable seamless management of smart devices to ensure the delivery of best-in-class smart services to employees, residents and visitors.

Furthermore, its residential units will boast sophisticated remote-controlled systems that can regulate lighting, air conditioning and electrical appliances in addition to controlling the movement of windows and curtains.

The project will feature smart lighting systems with motion sensor controls that respond to traffic and pedestrians.

Silicon Park will leverage green building materials and control mechanisms as well as solar panels and double-glazed windows to reduce heat absorption.

Completely free of regular vehicles, the project will use electricity-powered alternatives as the primary mode of transportation, which helps reduce harmful emissions.

As a smart community, Silicon Park will feature intelligent solutions from charging docks for smart devices on the streets to optimally designed bus shelters, piazza shading and other public amenities. The bus shelters will provide free internet, services for recharging mobile phone balances and bill payments, and the Smart Kiosk device.

Some of the 21 smart solutions to be featured by DSOA will include a Corporate Happiness Diploma launched by DSOA and Rochester Institute of Technology in Dubai in cooperation with Smart Dubai Office and Gallup. Also on showcase will be the smart irrigation system that helps rationalize water consumption and reduce current consumption levels and operational costs at DSO by 40 percent.

The DSOA stand at GITEX will feature a demonstration of drones used by DSO under the smart security monitoring system to screen buildings and facilities.

It will also exhibit the UAE 5G Innovation Gate that is developed with Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du) to set up a 5G telecommunication network and offer integrated internet solutions.

A wholly owned entity of the government of Dubai, DSO operates as a free zone technology park for large enterprises, medium and small companies looking to set up their offices in Dubai.
