A total of 170,500 pieces of duplicate perfumes were confiscated from a warehouse in the Ras Al Khor area in Dubai following a raid conducted by the Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection (CCCP) sector of the Department of Economic Development (DED).

The confiscated goods were worth two million dirhams and included duplicates of at least 10 well-known brands.

The warehouse was fined and CCCP said that the seized goods will be destroyed if they are found to be hazardous to human health while the rest will be allowed to be re-exported after collecting a 30 per cent duty.

The raid was part of CCCP's intensive efforts to protect trademarks and eliminating counterfeits from the local market in order to enhance Dubai’s position as a competitive business hub upholding the rights of traders as well as consumers.

"The inspectors of CCCP maintain round the clock vigil against trademark violations and products that are harmful to humans and the reputation of the market.

“Counterfeit products pose a serious threat to ethical trade practices and we work with trademark owners to make sure that such products do not enter the local market," said Abdullah Al Shehi, Director of Intellectual Property Protection Department at CCCP.
