Dubai student tops Indian Class XII board exams

Rohan Sampath from Dubai Modern High School (DMHS) has topped in class 12 with 99.50 per cent marks in the Indian ISC Board examinations this year, in which almost 60,000 students from Indian and across the world appeared.

“Congratulations parents for the outstanding Board results. Rohan Sampath is the ISC world topper – 99.5 per cent,” DMHS Principal Darryl Bloud said in a text message sent to parents of its school’s students.

This is the first time that an Indian student from Dubai has emerged as the overall topper in the Class XII ISC exams, the results of which were declared on Saturday even as girls outshone boys.

Dubai’s Sampath scored a staggering 99.50 per cent marks in the Class XII marks while all Indian students in UAE schools cleared the Class X and XII Board examinations this year. Kalyani Vishnu from Christ Nagar Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram, stood second with 99.25 per cent.

The India toppers in the Class X exams – Madhavi Singh from Carmel School, Dhanbad, and Shalakha Kulkarni from Shrimati Sulochanadevi Singhania High School, Thane – scored an aggregate of 98.8 per cent.

In the ISC examinations (Class XII), 59,356 students from 805 schools appeared. Out of 32,861 boys, 31,665 passed the exam while out of 26,495 girls who appeared for the exam, 26,057 passed. The pass percentage for ISC, at 97.25 per cent, is up by 0.01 per cent as compared to last year.

In the ICSE examination (Class X), 1,32,282 students from 1,706 schools appeared in India and abroad. Out of 73,717 boys, 72,380 passed the exam while out of 58,565 girls, 58,070 passed the exam, respectively. The pass percentage, at 98.62 per cent, is also up by 0.01 per cent as compared to 2011.
