The verdict in the case of sex in the backseat of a Dubai taxi will be announced on November 22, according to the judge who is hearing the case.

In the meantime, the British and the Irish defendants have asked for the case to be dismissed on the grounds that the complainant, the cab driver, had a fight with one of the defendants and that no evidence of sex had been found in the taxi or the woman involved.

The Dubai Misdemeanor Court headed by Judge Abdul Aziz Al-Saadani decided to book the issue of Irish. (K RL), and British (RB), who are accused of having sex in the taxi, and of committing an obscene act publicly, and consuming alcoholic drinks without a licence, for verdict in the court’s next session on Novemberr 22.

The defendants who attended Thursday’s hearing, denied the first and second charges, but confessed to committing third charge of consuming alcoholic drinks.

Their lawyer, Shaker Shammari, requested dismissal. The medical report showed the absence of any effects of sexual activity inside the taxi or on the clothing of the defendants.

It showed that the woman accused was going through her menstrual cycle at the time of the incident. The lawyer pointed out that it was illogical for the accused to have sex in the taxi while they could have had it at the hotel where they were before taking the taxi.

He pointed out that an altercation had taken place after the first defendant accused the taxi driver of deliberately taking a longer route in order to increase the size of the fare.

Having sex  or committing an obscene act publicly is a crime in the laws of the UAE, while alcoholic drinks penalty is a fine between Dh1,000-5,0000.
