The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai is set to offer bike rental service along the line of the Dubai Tram.

RTA will undertake this scheme over two phases, the first covers stations of Dubai Media City, The Palm Jumeirah, Knowledge Village, and Al Sufouh and the second phase covers JLT and Dubai Marina Stations as well as the extension of Al Sufouh Street separating the Marina and the JBR.

The initiative is intended to encourage people to add bicycles as part of their mobility options within the dedicated cycling tracks.

“Offering this service complements our efforts in linking the existing cycling lanes along Jumeirah Street with the Marina, as well as the extension of the JBR Walk. All traffic safety requirements and technical procedures of using bikes have been well attended to,” said Husain Al Banna, Director of Traffic, RTA’s Traffic & Roads Agency.

“The service rests on the provision and of dedicated cycling tracks fitted with directional signage at world-class standards in order to enhance traffic safety procedures and support RTA’s efforts to ensure the safety of road users in the Emirate.”

“The offering of bike rental service in this area also aims to facilitate the integration of the operation systems as long as cycling lanes are extended along the tramway later on with a view to integrating them with the tram service. Such endeavours are aligned with the multilingual awareness campaigns launched by the Agency in keeping with the Resolution of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, No (10) for 2015 governing the use of bikes in Dubai, and RTA’s vision of providing Safe & Smooth Transport for All,” added Al Banna.
