Egg Attack: Vandals got Mirdif residents in fear of being ‘egged’

In what seems like a dangerous trend spread across gated communities in Dubai, young miscreants are indulging in a strange form of vandalism – throwing eggs at strangers.

"It has happened to us three times," says Homa Farley, a resident living in the community.

"All three times in the evening. The first time we had no idea what had happened; we suddenly heard a sound. When we looked, we found three eggs in our garden."

Several residents of the community have been 'egged'. A reader who lives in Mirdif commented on the site:

“This has also been happening in Mirdif for the past three months.

“People are entering the compound and throwing eggs at the french windows and running off. Makes the residents feel rather unsafe."

"We first thought we were the only targeted ones," says Homa. "But soon we found out that every house in our lane had been targeted.

“The boys climb the walls of our compound and throw eggs at our windows."

Homa and her family were able to get a glimpse of the vandals. "We saw them running off; they were boys in their teenage years, I guess around 16-17-years old.

"The last time they threw eggs at our house they reached the higher windows.

“These are quite difficult to clean; it needs a ladder to get up there. And it does not come off easily."

While in the Arabian Ranches, public holidays were the main days of attack, for residents of Mirdif any day during the week could be ‘egg’ day.

A source at Dubai Police said earlier that no reports have been filed about any such activity although it is punishable.

"The victim should come in with the person who threw the eggs, only then we can do something.

“In case this person is a child, we will need to call the parents of the child. This is all probably a bit too much of an effort for somebody who was targeted."

One resident of Mirdif says the watchmen recently caught some of the boys, but this could not be confirmed by this website.
