Public and private schools in the UAE have announced their holidays on the occasion of Eid Al Adha.

While some schools will be closed from October 5 to 9 (in effect being closed for nine days, from October 3 to 11, including weekends), many others will follow the government sector directive and remain closed for two days, October 5 and 6.

Schools with the longer break will reopen on Sunday, October 12, while those with the two-day break will start functioning on Tuesday, October 7. Schools that have chalked out a 9-day break (including the two weekends) are Emirates International School, Pristine Private school, Deira International School and American School Dubai.

Al Mizhar American Academy School, Al Ittihad Private School (Br), Dubai GEM Private School, Jumeira Baccalaureate School and Green Field Community School have also announced a 9-day holiday for Eid.

A staff at GEMS Winchester School informed that they are on a 9-day break, but part of it includes the “mid-term break”.

On the other hand, those that will remain closed for two days include Raffles World Academy, Kings Dubai, Dubai College, Gems Modern Academy, Japanese School and Indian High School.

Horizons English School, Al Ameen Private School, Al Diyafah High School, Dubai National School, GEMS Our Own English School and JSS International School have also announced a two-day holiday for Eid.

A parent of Gems Cambridge International School confirmed that the two-day break applied to their school. “My sons’ school will be closed October 5 and 6,” she confirmed.

A parent of Star International, Al Twar, confirmed the two-day break for her child.

Some parents informed Emirates24|7 that they were yet to hear from their child’s schools, and were unsure how many days their children will be home during Eid.

The Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) also confirmed that October 5 and 6 will be marked closed for Abu Dhabi schools.

Rawafed Private School is closed for two days, and so is Gems Cambridge International.

Government employees will get two days off, while the private sector will get a day.

Arafat Day will be on Friday, October 3. Consequently, Eid Al Adha would fall on Saturday, October 4.
