Eid in Dubai: Shopping, raffles, shows...

The Eid in Dubai banners are fasting coming up across the city, the schools are gearing up for the holiday break and mummies at home are preparing the shopping and gift list to be bought on the festive occasion.

Yes, it's beginning to look a lot like Eid in the city and the malls for sure are prepared. Dubai's retailers are gearing up for the Eid break with longer hours of operation, sales and promotions, big raffles and tickets to draw consumers to increase their footfall.

Here is a roundup of what you can expect at the popular malls in the city just to make your Eid holidays manageable as you get bombarded with the numerous deals around.

Dubai Mall

The Dubai Mall will celebrate Eid Al Adha with 20 days of festivities and extended operational hours.

From October 2 to 11, retail outlets and attractions will be open daily from 10am to 2am and F&B outlets from 10am to 3am.

The mall will also offer visitors the opportunity to win half a million dirhams (Dh500,000) for every Dh300 spent at the mall during the celebrations that will be held until October 11.

For those with kids and families, there will be many activities including workshops, parades and cultural events. The mall’s retail stores, dining outlets and leisure attractions will welcome visitors with special offers and giveaways.

Families can also experience the culture, traditions and values of the Emirati people including Emirati entertainment and cuisine at the Souk Atrium in The Dubai Mall free of any charge.

Many paid activities have also been organized as well. Emirati personality DJ Bliss will be spinning at Dubai Ice Rink on October 5, from 11:15pm to 1am, preceded by performances by DJ Mr Shef Codes from 9pm to 11pm. There are also paid events at Sega republic and Kidzania for the children.

Mall of the Emirates

At Mall of the Emirates, you can expect entertaining performances, traditional activities and shopping rewards as the shopping destination celebrates the Eid holiday from September 30 to October 11.

Live statues will welcome visitors from October 4 to 10. Four performers will entertain mall visitors and Dolce Vita will see you at the welcome courts at 5pm, 6:30pm, 8pm and 9pm.

You will also see ballerinas inside a bubble gliding in arabesque or classical choreography across the Central Galleria. These performances will be a 10-minute show, from October 5 to 11 at 6:30pm, 8pm and 9:30pm.

And there are prizes to be won as well. Shoppers who spend a minimum of Dh150 from any store within Mall of the Emirates and also City Centres in Deira, Mirdif, Ajman & Fujairah from September 25 to October 11, will get a chance to win Dh10,000, instead of Dh5,000 weekly.

You can also take advantage of a ‘hi-fi Tuesdays’ campaign here and in other Al Futtaim malls where the winning amount accumulates each week in the event of unclaimed prizes. Weekly prizes will be drawn at each mall on Tuesdays at 7pm. Winners must claim their prize from the mall within 15 minutes, otherwise the amount is rolled over into main prize pot for greater winnings and rewards for shoppers the following week.

Dubai Festival City

This mall will be hosting many shows and cultural events during the coming days. While at the mall you can meet roaming performers and watch Yulla dancers in a 30-minute cultural dance show featuring traditional Emirati dances that showcase the rich heritage of the country. 

Alongside, there will be international dances from around the world including those from Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, India and Spain. All these events are free to watch.

Ibn Battuta Mall

Ibn Battuta mall is all set to enthrall its visitors during Eid holidays with circo boom and comedy circus. If you happen to be in the mall from 2 to 8 October, at 4pm and 6:30pm you can meet clowns who make you laugh during the 45-minute show, created by the Cirque du Soleil veteran Dimitri Bogatirev. Nominated for the Ovation Awards, in the category of best touring show, the comical spectacle has delighted audiences from around the world, performing before more than 500,000 people in Japan, Mexico, Korea, Singapore, Russia and Chile.

City Centre Deira

While at Deira City Centre, visitors can watch a musical extravaganza as the star-studded ‘Princesses of Pop’ show gears up to give an incredible tribute to popular female stars from the world of pop, including Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Rihanna and Katy Perry.

The singers will be accompanied by a live band and dancers. The show will run from 5th to 11th of October at 5pm, 6:30pm & 9pm.

Mirdiff City Centre

Dinosaur and zoo animal mascots will enthrall families and interact with them at City Centre Mirdif from October 2 – 11. Watch the animals as they parade around the mall at 4pm, 5:30pm and 8pm on the said days. 

The Central Galleria will also stage an interactive carnival show that will feature stilt walkers, jugglers, unicyclist and dancers on October 4 to 11 at 5pm, 6:30pm and 9pm. During the official Eid holidays on October 4 to 6, an Emirati Majlis will be set up at Central Galleria while mall visitors can enjoy watching the local band from 5pm to 9pm

A roaming candy table will be handing out sweets to the public at 9:30pm, 10:30pm and 11:30 pm from October 5 to 8 at City Centre Deira, and then will move to City Centre Mirdif from October 9 to 11.

Oasis Centre

On the occasion of Eid, Oasis Centre will give shoppers the opportunity to win instant prizes worth Dh500,000 through 'scratch & win'. Shoppers will have to spend a minimum of Dh200 to stand the chance to win the prize money.

In addition, entertainment activities on planned for the second and third days of Eid. The Eid Adha promotion started on September 25 and will last until October 11.
