Emirates and Etihad Airways have confirmed it is business as usual for flight operations to Egypt even as there have been reports of a curfew being imposed in parts of Cairo.

Emirates, which flies daily to the Egyptian capital, confirmed in a statement to Emirates 24|7: “At present, our operations remain as scheduled.”

Meanwhile, Etihad also stated that flights to and from Cairo are operating to schedule and there are no reported delays.

The statement continued: “The airline has been advised that passengers in Egypt scheduled to travel from Cairo to Abu Dhabi during the curfew period (imposed by the Egyptian authorities) will be allowed to travel to and from Cairo airport, as long as they are in possession of valid travel documentation.”

With the current situation in Cairo evolving, Etihad had earlier offered its passengers who held purchased tickets to and from Cairo on or before August 13, for travel up to and including August 20, to alter their flight plans free of cost.

Alternatively, if the journey commences on and after August 21 and the original booking class is not available, passengers will be offered the next available class and pay any additional fare difference after re-pricing the ticket.

The statement further added: “Passengers wishing to cancel their ticket may use the value of the ticket towards the purchase of a new ticket to or from any other Etihad Airways destination.”

Meanwhile, Airberlin has confirmed it is no longer taking any bookings for flights to Egypt until September 15.

The airline stated it is responding to the German Foreign Ministry’s updated assessment of the security situation in Egypt, which is as follows: “In view of the current events and the unpredictability of how the situation may develop, travel to Egypt is not advised at present.”

However, the flights from and to Egypt are currently being operated as planned.

The airline has also stated that anyone who has booked a flight to the country for the travel period until September 15 can change their booking free of charge to another Airberlin destination.

The new departure date can be for any date until October 31.
