Passengers bound for New York and New Jersey are heaving sighs of relief as airlines are slowly resuming operations after nearly 1,700 flights being scrapped yesterday across greater New York airports for the second time in two weeks.

Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways are all operating as normal, despite yesterday’s northeaster that brought with it gale winds and a fresh drop of snow, making conditions too risky to land flights.

However, NYC’s JFK International Airport is updating on its website that connections with Emirates from Dulles and Chicago have been cancelled for the duration until weather clears.

Meanwhile, United Continental Holdings Inc. (UAL) and American Airlines have also reported that operations will resume today as weather clears, despite the winter wonderland settling in around New York and New Jersey.

The losses from the latest weather hiccup still pales in comparison to 20,000 flights that were cancelled according to researcher FlightAware.com in wake of tropical storm Sandy, which has still left around 600,000 New Yorkers still powerless.

With the current weather front, other airlines that have delayed flights or reduced services include US Airways, Delta Ai Lines, Southwest and JetBlue.
