An Emirates flight was at the centre of a smoking tyre incident when it touched down at Melbourne Airport on Thursday morning.

Flight EK406 was landing in the morning hours when smoke was seen coming from its tyres.

As a precautionary measure, the plane was held at the end of the runway, with people reporting that emergency trucks were called to the scene.

A spokesperson from Emirates confirmed the incident to Emirates 24l7, saying: "Emirates this morning has issued an 'all clear' in response to reports of smoke coming from the tyres of EK406 landing at Tullamarine Airport on Thursday 20 February 2014.

"As a precautionary measure, Emirates held the aircraft at the end of the runway and despatched engineers to inspect the aircraft."

The statement continued: "The engineers undertook a thorough check and found the smoke to be the result of a common occurrence caused by a warm tyre, which has not been in motion in the air, making contact with the runway.

"The aircraft was thoroughly checked and cleared to taxi to terminal and has departed as usual on its route to Auckland."

This is the second incident involving a smoke scare involving a UAE carrier this week, with an Etihad Airways Melbourne-Abu Dhabi flight at the centre of a possible arson incident when smoke alarms were set off mid-flight forcing the pilot to divert the plane to Jakarta.
