Two young Emiratis died after they fell into a crater filled with rain water in Wady Wahla area in Fujairah, reported Arabic daily ‘Al Bayan’.

Major Dr. Saeed Al Hassani, Director, Fujairah Media and Public Relations Department, Fujairah Police, said the incident occurred at about 5.30pm on Sunday when the 7-year-old boy, AMS, went out to play. He reportedly waded into a pool of water left by rains that lashed the emirate the previous day.

However, he slipped into a deep hole and began screaming for help. The 19-year-old SM, who was nearby, rushed to the child’s rescue, only to be trapped in the hole.

Hearing the victims’ shout for help, an Asian man informed police and gathered others from the area and rescued the duo from the clay-filled hole.

Major Al Hassani said despite administering first-aid and rushing them to hospital, they could not be saved.

He urged residents to stay away from rain puddles.
