The number of road accidents in Sharjah dropped to 359 in the first half of this year compared to 382 during the same period of 2014, according to the emirate's police.

Sharjah Police attributed the drop in accident cases to its traffic awareness campaigns.

The latest figures showed a significant improvement in the levels of traffic safety in Sharjah in 2015 compared to last year.

Asian drivers caused more accidents then the Emiratis and other Arab nationals.

Statistics show that Asian nationals were involved in 141 accidents, followed by Emiratis (118), other Arab nationals (82) and GCC citizens (9).

The main causes of the road accidents included not staying on proper lane, speeding, not leaving safe distance between two vehicles, tyre bursts, reckless driving and jumping red signals.
