An employee, who allegedly stole 80 expensive watches from the shop where he worked.

Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Humaid Al Merri, Director of the Criminal Investigation Section, said the incident was reported by the shop owner earlier this month.

In his complaint, the shop owner said that when he came to his shop in Festival City Mall in the morning he found the shop burgled with no traces of forced entry, as the doors and watch display cases were intact.

The 80 stolen watches were all of high-end brands and were worth Dh 1 million.

A team was set up to interrogate people who worked at the shop, because the way the burglary took place indicated that the thief was among the employees.

The shop owner told investigators that no one had the keys to the door and cases and he was the only one who knew how the alarm system worked.

Lt Col Al Merri said the team zeroed in on one of the employees who had a history of bad conduct and who was transferred to another branch.

He said the suspect made copies of the keys to the shop and display cases before he was transferred. He also learned how the alarm system works.

The suspect was arrested, and all 80 watches were recovered from his house.
