As the deadline to register Identity Cards for children under 15 nears, Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) has stressed that youngsters are not required to be physically present at registration centres.

They are only required to fill up forms at accredited typing centres.

Also beginning today [September 16] registration centres will begin receiving applications of children listed on their parents’ passports, reported Emarat Al Youm.

While UAE national children require original passports, parents’ ID card, family book and a photograph, expatriate kids require valid passport of either a parent or the child, parent’s ID and a photograph.

Eida clarified that the deadline expires on September 30, except for expatriate children whose residency is valid until December 31, 2012. They are required to register for ID cards with the renewal of their residency.

The authority said the delay fee of Dh20 a day with a maximum Dh1,000 has been set by the Cabinet Resolution No. 25 for the year 2011. The rule will be applicable for childrenunder 15 as of October 1, 2012.
