An Emirati man claiming to be a police man stopped drivers and other people in the road in Umm Al Quwain and fined them large sums of money before he himself was stopped and arrested by real policemen, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old man, identified only as MNM, was threatening his victims either to pay or they will be taken to the police station. Naturally, all of them preferred to pay but some also decided to inform the police about such acts.
Police later managed to identify the man and arrested him in collaboration with police in Dubai, where he lives.
“He was producing a fake police card to the people and ask them to pay a fine or he would take them to the station,” Alkhaleej newspaper said, quoting Major Obaid bin Fadel, head of Al Shamil police station in UAQ.
