Relatives of a Saudi man convicted of murdering a Pakistani are racing against time to save him from the gallows by securing enough funds to pay diya (blood) money) to the victim’s family, newspapers reported on Thursday.
The victim’s relative have demanded SR800,000 ($213,000) to pardon Hadi but around SR149,000 is still to be raised in public donations following appeals by the killer’s father, the papers said.
“This sum is now needed to save Hadi from death as the victim’s relatives are demanding SR800,000,” Okaz daily said, without giving further details of the murder or specify the execution date.
Under Islamic law, a killer can walk free in case of a pardon by the victim’s relatives in return for bloody money.
