Fog alert: Accidents across UAE

Update: At 9am, Dubai Police posted heavy fog still persisted in Hatta and surrounding areas, even as a spate of traffic incidents caused gridlock in pockets around the UAE.

The authority tweeted: “Heavy fog on Dubai-Hatta Road and Lahbab police station roundabout towards Dubai. Please drive carefully and safely.”

The foggy climes have caused low visibility on Monday morning, which dropped down as low as 10 metres near Dubai Outlet Mall, according to some motorists.

Around 8am, another crash was reported on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

Dubai Police tweeted at the time: “Accident on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, after Al Muhaisnah bridge towards Abu Dhabi, resulting in traffic delays.”

Heading towards Abu Dhabi, heavy fog was reported at Khalifa City, Sweihan, Ghantoot and Liwa.

The Ministry of Interior Abu Dhabi tweeted: “Low visibility due to fog formation on high ways. Motorists are urged to take extra caution.”

The NCMS is reporting low visibility near Al Maktoum International in Dubai, along with Abu Dhabi Airport and Al Minhad.

Other areas shrouded in fog this morning include Sweihan and parts of Ras Al Khaimah.

Motorists are being warned to proceed with caution on UAE roads on Monday morning, with the country's weather bureau issuing a fog alert across most of the country with poor visibility conditions.
 
The National Center for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) for the UAE stated: "There is a warning against a chance of fog formation over most areas, with very poor visibility at times."
 
The NCMS reported fog descending on Liwa and other western areas in Abu Dhabi from late evening on Sunday, with the next 72 hours following in a similar pattern.
 
The weather in general on Monday is expected to be partly cloudy, with a gradual rise in temperatures.

The relative humidity will further increase during the night, with average highs of 95 per cent, which will give rise to late night and early morning fog over the coastal and internal areas, especially the western region, stated the NCMS.
 
Motorists are advised to proceed with caution due to low visibility conditions, especially around Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
 
The Arabian Gulf is also expected to be rough in the morning.
