Fog, dust blind Dubai, Abu Dhabi; slows traffic

Published

Slow moving traffic is being reported in parts of Jebel Ali and the outer reaches of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain as the early morning fog reduced visibility in certain parts of the country.

Earlier today, the UAE’s Nation Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) reported of ‘heavy fog and mist in Liwa and the Dafrah region’. The centre also reported mist in Al Ain and low visibility at the new Al Maktoum Airport in Jebel Ali reduced to 2,000m.

Eye witness Jhanvi Jigna spoke to Emirates 24|7 saying: “The visibility is considerably low near the Dubai-Abu Dhabi border, right after crossing the Jebel Ali stretch due to a dusty patch.

“The wind speed has picked up in the area and is blowing significant sand onto the highway for a short stretch. However, it clears up just before you hit Ghantoot.”

While drivers across have been asked to proceed with caution due to fog and dust, other minor traffic issues are also hindering the morning driver, with Traffic Dubai tweeting of an accident on Hessa Street.

The tweet states: “Accident on Hessa Street towards Sheikh Zayed Road just after First Al Khail Street. Delays as traffic begins to build. Please drive safe.”

A ‘massive traffic jam on flyover leading to Dubai Mall from Al Khail Road’ is also being reported on Twitter with people requested to avoid the stretch.

There is also heavy traffic being reported on Oud Metha Road, heading towards Rashid Hospital, with the school zone reportedly being extremely congested.
