Food going waste after party? Donate it

In a bid to stop wastage of food, the Dubai Municipality has launched a project titled ‘Heafz Al Na’amah’ that will donate the excesses to charities.

Under this initiative, excess food collected from hotels, weddings, farms, restaurants, and homes, can be distributed to families and individuals in need. The transfer and packaging of food will be done in the safest and healthiest way by the Food Control Department of Dubai Municipality.

Dubai Municipality wants the move to stop food wastage, and use the excesses in a way that will serve the society.  

According to the agreement, charities, which are signed in, will receive food from the participating outlets. The food will be checked for health and safety standards by the Dubai Municipality staff. Even the transportation will be handled by authorised Dubai Municipality personnel.

The health supervisor will ensure the food is handled safely and every official involved in the process will be given a health card.

Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, said the department is keen to support this initiative, which emphasizes that excesses food should not be wasted but distributed to people in need.
