The UAE’s mobile phone continues to be bombarded with new devices. After the recent launches by the Russian and Chinese handset makers, a new version of the UAE’s own mobile phone brand has been introduced.

Launched by Axiom Telecom Telecom chief Faisal Al Bannai, the first UAE-born mobile phone brand Four offers five handsets with price ranging from Dh65 to Dh1,299.

Its most economical handset B101 is priced at Dh65, followed by S100 at Dh229, S400 at Dh499, S200 at Dh545 and the X100 for Dh1,299, according to information provided on Axiom’s website.

The company said all devices that fall in the ‘S’ and ‘B’ series offer dual SIM capability.

Al Bannai says Four’s roots in the UAE pays homage to the country’s commitment to technology and innovation. Four products are now available at over 1,500 outlets across the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

According to figures released by the UAE's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority in August last year, the UAE – which has a population of nearly 9 million – had more than 16 million active mobile subscribers at the end of 2013 with a penetration rate of nearly 193 per cent.

According to TRA, 59 per cent of handsets registered on the UAE’s networks were smartphones during the period from July 1, 2013 to September 30, 2014. The iPhone 5s was the most commonly used in the UAE, comprising 3.7 per cent of total handsets registered on UAE networks.

According to the UAE’s Four, the highest-priced handset X100 – powered by Android – is full-metal single body that is only 5.5mm thin, making it the world’s slimmest smartphone with its display size. The power-packed device has a 5-inch Super Amoled screen, with a 13 megapixel rear camera, a 5 megapixel front camera, 16GB memory, and a True Octacore 1.7GHz processor, priced at Dh1,299.

The colourful S200, which is powered by a Quadcore processor, has a slim design at 7.8mm thin, together with a 4.3-inch qHD display, a rear 8-megapixel camera and a front 2-megapixel camera, at a price of Dh545. The package also includes four back covers.

For users who are simply looking for a device that will allow them to place a call at the touch of a button, together with the visual clarity of a color screen and the ability to tune into FM radio, the company has launched B101 for just Dh65.

“This region is a hub for technological development, and Four was born out of a deep desire to offer mobility so that everyone can experience the exciting promise of mobile technology,” Al Bannai added.
