The Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa) has started construction work on two power plants in Umm Al Quwain, while tender process is underway for another two plants in the emirate.

The project is in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to increase investments in the utilities sector to Dh5.7 billion.

Al Ittihad newspaper on Saturday quoted Mohammed Khalil Shamis, Director of Communications at Fewa, as saying that tenders were being prepared for a number of power projects in Umm Al Quwain, including upgrading of three sub-stations and expanding of a main power generation plant in the emirate.

Yousif Jassem Al Mansouri, Deputy Director of Umm Al Quwain Planning Department said that Fewa was granted a 97,000-square foot plot to build on a new power plant which will help meet the rising demand for energy in the emirate.
