An Emirati businessman transferred to his name three customised number plates by claiming he held a Power of Attorney from the owner, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

MSB, 35, approached the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and signed an ownership transfer form and transferred three customised number plates to his name from the victim’s name Abdul Salam Ahmad. He told the RTA employee that he held a valid power of attorney from the victim and so was issued ownership certificates.

Abdul Salam, 45, Emirati, businessman testified that he first met the accused seven years ago via a friend he became his friend too.

“On April 24, 2008, I handed him a power of attorney to follow up a complaint a filed in Al Ain. On September 5, 2011, I cancelled the power of Attorney with the Attorney Public Office. Three days later, he came to my office in Al Khaleej Motors and I informed him of the cancellation of the Power of Attorney.

"On September 22, I received three SMS from RTA related to three customised number plates I own, telling me that three certificates have been issued replacing lost ones. I rushed to the RTA and found out that the accused transferred the ownership of the three number plates to his name against the power of attorney he had, so I lodged a complaint with the police,” he testified.

The court adjourned the case until March 12.
