Gas cylinder prices can’t be controlled: RAK

Gas cylinder prices in Ras Al Khaimah are governed by global gas prices and this means they are out of control in the local market, the department of economic development in the emirate has said.

DED was reacting to complaints by local restaurants that the recent price hikes in gas cylinders have largely increased production costs and this means that they will have to raise their prices, Alkhaleej Arabic language daily reported.

“The current gas prices in the global market controls the price of gas cylinders in the emirate and this means this price is out of control,” the paper said, quoting Ahmed Al Baloushi, director of consumer protection at DED.

“The recent increase in international gas prices has prompted us to hike the prices of gas cylinders this month…but the price of medium-sized cylinders remains lower that that in most other emirates, except  of course Abu Dhabi..…this size is mostly used in houses and this shows our commitment to alleviating the financial burden on families.”

Under new DED rules, prices of small cylinders were raised from Dh60 to Dh65 and those of medium cylinders from Dh115 to Dh125. The price of large cylinders increased from Dh230 to Dh252.
