“iPhone 5S - Make the right choice, get it for free,” screams a promo ad on the homepage of the etisalat website in the UAE.

Less than two months after the launch of the new iPhone models both telecom operators in the UAE - etisalat and du - have introduced plans where one can get the iPhone for free with a postpaid plan.

The etisalat plan offers a 16Gb iPhone 5S for free provided you subscribe to an 18-month contract for Dh249 per month. You also get a 2Gb national data package per month.

You can also opt for a 32Gb model for free by paying additional Dh279 as monthly rental - an addition of Dh30.  Etisalat is also offering the 64Gb model for a monthly rental of Dh299.

Du, on the other hand, has introduced the offer for selected credit cardholders in the UAE where the iPhone 5S can be got for free with 4Gb data bundle for 24 months. For an iPhone 5S 16Gb model, du is charging a monthly installment of Dh200 for 24 months. Subscribers can also opt for a 32Gb model by paying an additional Dh20 as monthly installment and a 64Gb model by paying an additional Dh35 as monthly installment for 24 months.

So overall a subscriber would be shelling out Dh4482 for a 16GB model with Etisalat for 2GB data every month for 18 months while du is charging Dh4800 for a 16Gb but offering 4Gb data per month for 24 months.

Similarly the total cost of opting for a 32Gb model would be Dh5,022 with etisalat and Dh5,280 with du. A 64Gb iPhone5S will work out to Dh5,382 with etisalat and Dh5,640 with du.

However, du is also offering a free upgrade to 10Gb for the first 12 months with any of the plans.
