UAE internet users can expect slow speed during peak hours as an underwater cable between Dubai and Oman has been cut.

According to a statement released by du on Tuesday, the cable was severed around 7.45am on Monday and operators are working to fix it, reported 'Emarat Al Youm'.

The telecom operator added that services have been re-routed through other cables to ensure minimum disruption until the problem is fixed.

Meanwhile, etisalat clarified that its users will not face any disruptions. In a statement released on Tuesday, Jaber Al Janahi, Vice-President Corporate Communications, etisalat, said: "We have not received any complaints or comments from subscribers regarding any network performance. Etisalat has an integrated global network cables that are connected with internet centres in Asia, Europe and the US, allowing it to move data automatically in the event of a defect in a submarine cable."

The du statement added: "The incident is not under our control...we are working with concerned authorities to find a quick solution to the problem...normal services will resume in a few days."
