An Indian national flew into Mangalore airport in South India with gold tablets weighing 430gms in his stomach.

Restrictions on the import of gold into India have led to a huge increase in Indians returning to the country, especially from the Middle East, trying to smuggle the yellow metal back home.

However, this latest instance, suggests now people are willing to put their lives at great risk to smuggle gold in.

Identified as SS, aged 44, hailing from Uduma, Kasargod, Kerala, the man travelled from Dubai to Mangalore on January 31, 2014, by Air India Express.

According to reports, SS could not get the gold he had ingested out of his system and finally had to admit himself to the Kasturba Medical College Hospital, Mangalore.

Doctors at the hospital immediately alerted the Mangalore Police.

It is believed the man carried the nearly half kilogramme of gold in his stomach for about ten days.

The doctors finally removed the gold pellets and according to reports each pellet measured 2cm in length.
