Grand Mufti calls for unity on Ramadan date

Dubai’s Grand Mufti has called on Arab leaders to agree on a date to start Ramadan together.

Dr. Ali Ahmed Mashael, Grand Mufti, Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department Dubai, said that the beginning of Ramadan by the entire Arab world on one particular date reflects unit and shows them in good light.

In an interview with Emirates247.com he said, “whoever witnesses the crescent moon of Ramadan, he must fast the month."

Talking about the works of muftis in Dubai he said that the current economic crisis reflects on the number of inquiries received by the department.

“The department received a huge number of inquries from people and around 10% the total fatwas issued by the Department since the the last quarter of 2008 were relating to the financial crisis,” he informed.
