A policeman stopped two Arab men from kidnapping a 12-year-old girl while she was on her way to a grocery at night in Dubai, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.

According to the Prosecution, a vehicle stopped close to the girl and one of the men got off and held the girl from behind.

The police officer who incidentally happened to be at the location, immediately called the police operations room before confronting the duo.

“Is she your sister?”, one of them allegedly asked the police officer, when he questioned them about what they wanted from the girl.

The officer claimed in court that when he revealed that he was a police officer, the suspects snatched his mobile, beat him up and fled in the vehicle.

He followed them and saw one of them get off at a building and run away while the other drove away in the car.

Police patrol  later stopped the car.

Meanwhile, the girl went to the grocery and called her mother from there. She had gone to buy ice cream for her brother, her mom told the court.

The suspects are identified as AF, 29, an Emirati employee and KH, 22, a jobless Syrian.

AF said he was under the influence of alcohol that night and cannot remember the kidnap attempt.
