A Bangladeshi man who was brought almost dead to a hospital in Ras Al Khaimah was pushed back to life by electric shocks within 20 minutes after his heart stopped, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

The 28-year-old man was admitted to Saqr Hospital with no pulse and with dilated pupils after collapsing when he was heading for work on Monday, the Arabic language daily 'Emarat Al youm' said.

“He arrived at the hospital half dead and was admitted to the emergency unit, where he had electric shocks in two sessions and a heart massage,” it said, quoting Dr Rabei Mukhtar, one of the doctors who treated the patient.

“His heart had stopped for between 15 and 20 minutes but it was revived and it began to pump again…he was in a critical condition but he is stable now.”

The paper said the doctors diagnosed the man’s case as “Brugada Syndrome” which causes what it described as “sudden cardiac death”.
