Thick fog shrouded parts of Dubai and Abu Dhabi on Monday morning, resulting in flights being diverted to different airports, even as local authorities issued road warnings for motorists in the UAE.

Indian carrier Jet Airways issued an alert on social media stating its New Delhi-Abu Dhabi flight was diverted this morning due to the heavy fog.

The tweet stated: “Due to poor visibility in Abu Dhabi, flight 9W582 (Delhi - Abu Dhabi) has been diverted to Sharjah.”

The Ministry of Interior in Abu Dhabi also issued a hazard warning on its official account saying: “Low visibility due to fog formation on different parts in Abu Dhabi and highways. Motorists are urged to take extra caution.”

The UAE’s National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) reported patches of fog over most of the roads to and from Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Al Ain.

The NCMS further states foggy conditions are expected to continue over the next few days, with today’s weather bringing cloudy skies and the possibility of scattered rain in the northern part of UAE.

A spike in the humidity levels will lead to increased fog late night and early morning on Tuesday, with partly cloudy conditions on Tuesday over the northern and eastern areas.

A marine alert has also been issued warning of rough to very rough conditions in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.
