Heroic Emirati mom saves 3 kids from house fire

Published

An Emirati mother demonstrated great courage and powerful maternal feelings when she saved the life of her three little daughters from a fire that engulfed her house in Ras Al Khaimah before jumping out herself.

Mariam Al Zaabi said she herself was surprised at how she could think of a rescue plan when the blaze started to creep towards her daughters’ bedrooms in the second floor after it ravaged the ground floor of her house at night.

Her husband was out at work for night shift and neighbours were too far to hear her screams, prompting her to take a decision and act on her own.

“We were on the verge of death….I had only two choices…either to surrender to death or to save my daughters and myself,” she told Emarat Alyoum daily.

The mother said she then quickly grabbed her youngest daughter Ghazal, 5, and hurled her out of the window towards the back garden, adding that she decided to start with Ghazal because she was suffering from Asthma.

She then carried Amena, 7, and Aisha, 8, dangled them through the window and let them go. The housemaid then jumped after them and brought the ladder in the garden for the mother to climb down.

“We then all ran out of the garden towards the road and shouted to neighbours, who called the civil defence….the fire was later put out but the house was destroyed…we went that night to sleep at a relative in Fujairah before returning to a hotel in Ras Al Khaimah on the next day…we now sleep in the only room left in the house because my husband cannot afford maintenance,” she said.
