A Pakistani painter who stole Dh50 from two pedestrians has received a three-year jail sentence.

HA, 29, was also sentenced to an additional month in jail for consuming alcohol and is then ordered to be deported by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance.

According to the records, on July 3, 2015, at around 9pm, LR, 23, and his friend BF, 24, were stopped by four men pretending to be CIDs

“They asked us to bend on our knees and asked us to hand over our money and mobiles. We were sure that they were not CID staff.

“As we screamed, they tried to run away. We chased them and with the help of a guard, who heard us, caught one of them.

“We seized our mobile phones while the rest had run away with Dh50,” said the victim.

Police arrived at the scene and arrested HA.

HA told the police that other three men were with him consuming alcohol in their accommodation in Jebel Ali, before they stopped the pedestrians.

“While we were consuming alcohol, two Indians passed by. We decided to rob them. I pretended to be a CID by presenting a Saudi ID card that I still hold.

“We asked them to empty their pockets. The two men handed me their belongings of cash and mobiles and then screamed for help. My friends ran away and the two pedestrians caught me and beat me before calling the police,” the accused admitted.

He also admitted that the ID card carried a genuine Saudi police logo and was issued to him for entering a military establishment during his work in the Kingdom.
