Huge cocaine bust in Abu Dhabi: 3 flying in from South America

Abu Dhabi Airport customs foils smuggling attempt of 146 cocaine capsules

Inspectors at Abu Dhabi International Airport’s customs, recently foiled an attempt to smuggle 146 capsules, containing 2.8kg of cocaine.

Three passengers, entering the country through the Abu Dhabi International Airport from South America, have been arrested.

During the incident, night shift inspectors suspected a Nigerian passenger. The inspectors searched the traveller and found 18 cocaine capsules, weighing 306 grammes.

Further investigation led customs inspectors to question two other passengers on the same flight, who were carrying more of the same. When subjected to inspection, a total of 128 cocaine capsules, weighing 2,574 grammes were found.

Following the inspection, the illegal substances were confiscated. The three travellers were then detained and transferred to the concerned authorities to take all necessary legal actions.

Commenting on the incident, Mohamed Khadem Al Hameli, Acting Director-General of the General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs, praised customs inspectors at the Abu Dhabi International Airport for their considerable efforts, and their dedication in performing their duties.
