Hunter, son shoot deer at UAE reserve

The Abu Dhabi Police arrested two persons, a GCC citizen MA, 38, and the other an Asian, MSh, 25, for hunting deer in a nature reserves in Ghayathi in the Western Region.

According to Colonel Ojeil Al Juneibi, Director, Western Region Police Directorate, Abu Dhabi Police, said the 7-year-old son of the GCC national accompanied the men on the hunting trip.

“The child was handed over to his family. “People should be warned against putting the lives of children at risk and hunting without a permit. Hunting without appropriate permits is punishable by law,”  Colonel Junaibi said.

The suspects used a hunting rifle and a vehicle without a license plate.

“On June 11, a police patrol spotted a pick-up truck without license plate numbers near the Ghayathi industrial area,” reported Colonel Al Junaibi.

When the police checked the vehicle, they found a dead deer in the back, along with weapons and ammunition.

Colonel Al Junaibi said the men confessed to hunting and killing the deer with a rifle.

“They drove along the fence of the nature reserve at night and when they spotted the deer, they shot it. The two then cut through fence to enter the reserve and dragged the deer back to their vehicle after slitting his neck to confirm its death,” he explained.

Colonel Al Junaibi stressed that the Abu Dhabi Police will continue its efforts to protect the nature reserves and arrest those who illegally hunt rare animals and wildlife.
