The venue for election of office bearers of the Indian Association Sharjah (IAS), scheduled to be held on Friday at the Sharjah Indian High School, has been changed.

Members of the IAS have submitted an application to authorities in the emirate to move the venue from the Sharjah Indian High School to the association’s building located a few kilometres away from the school. The school is managed by the IAS.

“Following complaints from parents, we decided to move the venue of the election of committee members. We have sent an application to Sharjah Police for changing the venue. We expect to get a response today evening. An official notification will be made either tomorrow or the day after,” said Nisar, a member of the committee.

The IAS election was scheduled to take place in the premises of the Sharjah Indian High School, coinciding with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations.

Many parents had raised objections to the two events taking place at the school at the same time and were contemplating complaining to the ministry.

“Considering the history of previous elections, there will definitely be a lot of chaos within the campus and it would not be an ideal place to hold examinations,” a parent of one of the students told Emirates 24/7.

More than 2,000 students from several Indian schools in Sharjah are expected to take part in the CBSE examinations scheduled to start at 9am.
