ID card-residence link in Khalifa Medical City

The Emirates Identity Authority has announced its intention to activate the service of linking the ID card registration procedures with the residence issuance and renewal procedures in Abu Dhabi City from Sunday.

The move is made in co-operation with the Health Authority - Abu Dhabi through the Emirates Identity Authority's office annexed to the Preventive Health Examination Center in Khalifa Medical City.

The Emirates Identity Authority's registration office annexed to the Preventive Health Examination Centre in Khalifa Medical City, scheduled to be opened on September 18, will bring to 16 the number of centres across the UAE where the linkage of ID card with residence is activated out of 25 centres scheduled to be opened up to the end of 2011.

The average capacity of registration at the new Emirates Identity Authority office in Khalifa Medical City is expected to reach around 1,400 registrants per day. This capacity is equal to the average number of daily registrants at the Preventive Health Examination Center in Khalifa Medical City.

The project of linking the ID card with residence across the UAE, which comes under the second theme of the Emirates Identity Authority's new registration plan, is aimed at making the service of registering in ID card easier for residents who will have in this case to visit only one site for making the medical examination and registering in ID card simultaneously.

Moreover, the linkage of ID card with residence is regarded as a successful mechanism to ensure registration of all residents in the population register and ID card. It has recently been announced that this process will be compulsory for all UAE residents as from January 1, 2011, when the delay fees of AED20 per day as per the Cabinet's resolution will start to be imposed on every person above 15 who request a residence visa to be issued or renewed without registering in ID card.

The Emirates Identity Authority reiterated its call for the UAE residents to register in ID card and benefit from the last grace period given by the Emirates Identity Authority's board of directors in a bid to avoid the delay fees and abide by the Cabinet's previous resolutions, which have banned the acceptance, employment or retention of any resident as an employee, laborer, worker, student or any other capacity unless he/she is in possession of an ID card.

With the linkage of ID registration procedures with residence procedures in Abu Dhabi City activated, Eida in co-operation with the Health Authority - Abu Dhabi, has completed the project of linking its procedures with the preventive medicine across the capital after succeeding in early July in activating the linkage of its procedures in Musaffah through its Musaffah 2 Centre annexed to the Preventive Medicine Examination Centre.

Eida expects the total number of residents who will register in ID cards through its two capital-based centers to exceed 3,000 people per day. Both centers work as per the official working hours of the preventive medicine examination centers in Abu Dhabi City and Musaffah.

Under the ID card registration procedures linked with residence procedures, a customer will have to fill out the registration form at an authorised typing centre across the UAE and visit the preventive medicine center for medical examination before completing the ID card registration procedures.

The importance of the project of linking the ID card registration procedures with the residence visa stems from the results expected to be achieved after the project has been implemented. These results are embodied in developing the population register system by raising the daily registration capacity to nearly 22,000 registrants through the registration centers annexed to the preventive medicine and all the Emirates Identity Authority's registration centers and offices across the UAE, which is equal to 500,000 registrants per month.

Eida has started activating the linkage of ID card registration procedures with the residence issuance or renewal procedures through the registration centers annexed or close to the preventive medicine centers in Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Dibba Al Hisn, Al Dhaid and the Western Region in Abu Dhabi.
