ID renewal at ATM-like machines soon

National identity card holders will no longer need to wait in long queues at crowded registration centres to have their card renewed as they will soon be able to do so by themselves through ATM-machines.

The Emirates National Identity Authority (EIDA) said it would initially install 20 machines in three selective areas on a trial basis in May before expanding the system to all parts of the country. 

Four such machines, dubbed “self-service facility”, will soon be introduced to the ID registration centres in Musaffah in Abu Dhabi, Barsha in Dubai and Sharjah. 

“EIDA will launch 20 machines in May and the system will then be expanded to cover all UAE registration centres and key sites,” said Mohammed Al Mazroui, director of the population record section at EIDA. 

“This machine will provide many services to clients, including renewal of the card, amendment of the card data, cancelling the card in case it is lost, and changing the card’s password,” he told Alittihad daily.
