Man killed in building lift collapse in separate incident in emirate

A 14-year-old Indian boy died after drowning in a swimming pool in a residential tower in Sharjah and police are still investigating the incident.

Police rushed to the scene after receiving calls about a dead body in the pool in the building in Majaz area, the semi-official daily Al Ittihad said.

It quoted a police spokesman as saying the body had been sent to the coroner for tests to determine the exact cause of death and where it involved any criminal act.

The paper did not identify the victim.

In a separate report, Al Ittihad said a man was killed after the collapse of a lift which he was using in a building in Sharjah on Friday.

It said the accident took place in Batina neighborhood and that police were investigating the reasons for the collapse. The paper did not identify the man.
